The embrace of the future at the KLCC zone and it is just a part of Kuala Lumpur developed areas. The convention centre of Kuala Lumpur is very modern style and it’s also built by different kind of shapes and form by using steel material and glass, so architects created the design of this building to be more attractive for people, because it visited by different people with different minds. The building used more steel columns than concrete around the whole building. The area of KLCC got many style around it but the best is Petronas Towers it was and it is very attractive towers.

Freezing the past we can find it in this building where it is at the central market area of Pasar Sini. The building is still keeping it’s style and texture, the beauty of Malaysian design. This house built in 1914 so it is almost 96 years old. Pasar Sini were the heart of Kuala Lumpur before the new city built, the beautiful thing that everything in this area Still as it was they didn’t change the design of those building even the new building are nearly designs like traditional designs of Malaysia .

Al-syakirin mosque , it’s located at one of the most modern zones of Kuala Lumpur it’s KLCC area. The mosque actually is very new, but the shape and the style of it is very old as Islamic form of mosque, so the designers of the mosque tried and done the modern materials and structure with old style and shapes. The dome is made of steel, marble and glass as we see but the style and form of the dome used to built by stones in past time, but for nowdays the materials are very easy to use and play with the shapes with the same texture and design of the past. So the dome is just one example of many.

4.Cultural Crossroads

This building located in Petaling Street near by central market area of Pasar Sini. The photo was taken 09/08/2010.

Actually we can call this building a culture crossroads because if u look at the building we will get the different forms and designs. This building used a Malaysia window style it has many openings for ventilation and air movement. Columns built as European form we can see that on the texture of the columns and the shape, so the third culture is Chinese style where it is placed at the top of the building as a decoration of it.

This part of China Town is one of the new space in Kuala Lumpur. This area designed and planned as a new space for people to get around easily during their shopping time or selling as well. This area is very open area for the ventilation and the air movement, because there are a lot of visitors to this area so people need to have air for cooling the area. The roof form built by steel and glass. The shops as well designed as a new structure planned so we can call this area a Collapsing of Identity because the whole area around got very old styles and building but the street is almost new so that’s the main different.

DESCRIPTION: Petronas twin towers, Kuala Lampur 9th August 2010

EXPLANATION: Petronas twin towers of Kula Lapmpur describes the theme “embrace of the future” due to the usage of new methods in building of the mega structure. The building is built in one of the deepest foundation using a lot of concrete and steel. The towers resemble the Islamic architecture in Malaysia.

2. Freezing of the Past

DESCRIPTION: Chinese Temple 9th August 2010

EXPLANATION: The Chinese temples best describes the theme “freezing of the past”. It is because of the usage of the colourful detailing and usage of the colour red which symbolises the culture of the Chinese people. The most important feature of this temple is the roof. It is decorated by using different designs like dragons which is very important feature in Chinese culture.

EXPLANATION: The shopping complex is a great representation of “transition between past and present”. It is because it contains features that were used in the early Malaysian architecture. For example, lot of openings, roofs which gives shades outside, and dark interior.

4.Cultural Crossroads

DESCRIPTION: Shop Houses (kongsi)near central market 9th August 2010

EXPLANATION: Some of the shop houses near the central market can be considered as “cultural cross roads”. These shop houses are influenced by the Chinese living in Malaysia. Since the Chinese first came to Malaysia due to the trade routes, the ground floor of the houses (front) were used as shops. These houses are very narrow in width and long in length. It also has a mixture of western influence in the design of the buildings.

EXPLANATION: I chose KFC for the theme “collapsing of identity” because the main structure is a perfect example of the Chinese Malaysian architecture and in the present days it has being modified in such a way that the purpose of each part of the building has being lost. Earlier days the inner parts of the structure is a private area for the people living there.

Petronas twin towers are the tallest twin towers in the world. Their modern features, steel and glass facades show the post-modern architecture in Malaysia. It shows the latest expression and uses the Islamic motifs and Islamic influenced floor plan to reflect the national religion of Malaysia. With the technology, large scale building is built to resemble the strong economy of the country. This building is best example for showing the latest expression of architecture in Malaysia.

This building is built in british colonial era. Shop lots were first introduced and tend to be more elaborated and in small scare. The expression is more toward to the western classical where there where elaborated columns and decorative arches. Glass windows were introduced. The decorative façade of the shop house showing the influenced of western architecture. The shop houses were introduced because of the trading and commercial purposes.

3.Transition between the Past and the Present

Royale chulan hotel. Located in klcc area.

This modern building is built based on the traditional malay architecture. The roof is adapted from the malay traditional house. This modern building is more elaborated with malay architectural ornament. This is an example how traditional elements adapted into the modern architecture. Instead of using timber, concrete is used but with brown cladding to indicate the colour of timber to create a traditional malay architecture expression.

This shop houses express the mixture of western influence and local adaption. The western classical architecture is used where decorative pillars and arches to show the western influence. Besides, local adaptions like louvers are used instead of glass window to suit the local climate, which is the purpose of ventilation. It is where different cultures mix together to create is different form of architecture.

This shop house show the collapsing of identity where aluminium glass windows are used and no much elaborated . with the used of metal roof decking, bringing no identity which its expression. The architecture is common in Malaysia as the construction is cheaper and simple compare to others. Without clear local architecture expression nor western influenced, collapsing identity obviously happened.

Describe: klcc building the twin towers in Kuala lampur, build in 1998.

Theme1: PETRONAS twin tower , these tow towers were tallest in the world on the late of completion. The 88-floor towers are raised mainly of reinforced concrete, with their façade crafted in steel and glass, with a smart landscape and under down green area. PETRONAS Towers are a glistening example of modern hi-tech architecture and reverence of established religion and the development of modern architecture and technology, as the marvelous facade bears motifs found in Islamic art. Since the bedrock was deep, the buildings came to be known as the towers erected on the world's deepest foundations

Theme 2:

This old building design is built in British colonial era. the Shop lots were first introduced and tend to be more elaborated and in small scare. The expression is more toward to the western classical where there where columns and decorative arches, and also present style by the detailing, and got the corridor for providing more shading space and a space for people to walk in and protect them from the sun which is not that useable in our time now even though its an basic and useful idea of traditional architecture should be used in climate like Malaysian one.

Theme 3: Here is the transferring between the past and the present which applied the new modern design with tall or huge building construction same way This modern building is built based on the traditional Malay architecture. The roof is adapted from the Malay traditional house and is the right way of developing the traditional architecture main points and apply it in d modern with useful way more practical then just copy what others country and architecture did.. this modern building is more elaborated with Malay architectural ornament. This is an example how traditional elements adapted into the modern architecture

Describe: Restaurant oriental bowl

Theme 4: As the picture showing is a restaurant used the red color for painting which usually present Chinese architecture and the detailing, from other side we can notice the columns and decorative pillars and arches which presenting the western and European style, plus the louvers and the ventilation system which present the Malaysian architecture. so in Malaysian building we can see the mix culture in some building between western and chine's and European and Americans. So its gives kind of of specialist and important as different style of architecture

Theme 5: In this shop house we can realize that the architect is depends on emphasize on simplicity and use of different materials to built form by horizontal and vertical building. but its losing of Malaysia identity is a main problem for this kind of architecture and the way to provide better design from traditional architecture ideas. Is the using they copying the ideas without provide a solution for improve the Malaysian traditional design and building. And that its worse for the country to provide this kind of building which is not supposed to built in this kind of climate and environment.
